1. Material Testing and Analysis:
• Perform laboratory testing and analysis of asphalt materials, including aggregates, asphalt binder, and asphalt
mixtures, using standardized testing methods and equipment.
• Conduct tests to determine material properties, characteristics, and performance parameters, such as gradation,
asphalt content, density, compaction, stability, and flow, according to ASTM, AASHTO, and FAA standards.
• Record and interpret test results, analyze data, and prepare test reports documenting findings, observations, and
conclusions for review by project managers, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
2. Quality Assurance and Control:
• Implement quality control measures and procedures to ensure the accuracy, precision, and repeatability of laboratory
tests and measurements.
• Verify the compliance of asphalt materials with project specifications, mix designs, and performance criteria, and
identify deviations or non-conformances for corrective action.
• Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and calibration records to ensure proper functioning,
accuracy, and reliability of test results.
3. Sample Collection and Preparation:
• Collect samples of asphalt materials from construction sites, production plants, and stockpiles following established
sampling protocols and procedures.
• Prepare test specimens, samples, and specimens for laboratory testing, including sieving, crushing, milling, and
extraction, using appropriate equipment and techniques.
• Handle, label, store, and dispose of samples in accordance with safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines to
prevent contamination and ensure data integrity.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of laboratory testing activities, test results, sample data, and quality
assurance records using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or manual logs.
• Prepare test reports, data summaries, and technical documentation summarizing laboratory findings, analyses, and
recommendations for project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
• Communicate effectively with project teams, field personnel, and laboratory staff to provide updates, share findings,
and address inquiries related to laboratory testing and quality control activities.
5. Continuous Improvement and Training:
• Participate in proficiency testing programs, inter-laboratory comparisons, and professional development activities to
enhance technical skills, knowledge, and competency in asphalt materials testing.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, method optimizations, and technology upgrades to enhance
laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
• Provide training, guidance, and mentoring to junior laboratory technicians and interns to develop their skills and
competencies in asphalt materials testing and laboratory procedures.
